The city of Manaus in Brazil joins the ranks of other technology-driven metropolises using Optibus to plan and operate their public transportation network.

The move means that Manaus will gain a public transportation system fully planned and managed using artificial intelligence (AI). With this decision, Manaus, home to more than two million residents, joins other metropolises in the region known for their 100% AI-driven public transportation systems, such as Porto Alegre in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, and Santiago, Chile. Both already utilize Optibus’ software as part of their public transportation planning and route scheduling operations.

Founded in 1979, the Union of Passenger Transport Companies of the State of Amazonas (Sinetram) is responsible for the full operation of Manaus’ public transportation system.  The Union represents the city’s seven public transportation companies, overseeing a fleet of more than one thousand buses running services across the city. Now, Sinetram is modernizing the city’s public transportation system using Optibus’ route planning, crew and vehicle scheduling, and Timetable Optimization products, bringing a new level of efficiency and reliability to their  2.7 million annual passenger journeys and 278 routes throughout the Amazonian capital.

Optibus’ Scheduling software will be used by Sinetram to introduce AI-powered processes for building better crew and vehicle schedules

Optibus’ Scheduling software will be used by Sinetram to introduce AI-powered processes for building better crew and vehicle schedules.

Sinetram’s selection of Optibus comes with the Union’s push to improve services throughout the city, create more efficient schedules and bus driver shifts, and gain visibility into their operation. Leveraging Optibus’ AI, cloud computing capabilities, and optimization algorithms, Sinetram gains access to powerful technology that makes it easier to build better schedules and routes, improve service punctuality and frequency, and boost operational and financial efficiency.

"We are excited to introduce new technologies to our operation and to integrate artificial intelligence into Manaus’ public transportation network. Our partnership with Optibus represents a significant leap toward operational efficiency as our team begins to use AI to offer smarter, more adaptable transportation services. This Sinetram initiative aims to benefit passengers and further improve the service as a whole" said Diogo Feuser, Superintendent of Sinetram.

In Brazil, Optibus’ transportation management platform is used in all regions of the country, by major operators and agencies including Saritur, Niff Group, Redentor, MobiBrasil, Grupo Fênix, the bus rapid transit (BRT) system of Rio de Janeiro, and more.

"The partnership between the Sinetram Consortium and Optibus reflects our mutual commitment to enhance the quality and efficiency of public transportation services in Manaus. We look forward to working alongside our client to provide more accessible mobility and more punctual and reliable schedules for passengers," commented Victor Celada, Optibus's Regional Director in Brazil.
