Optibus is proud to announce that yet another city will have its entire public bus system managed using Optibus: Ribeirão Preto, Brazil.
Home to 700,000 residents, Ribeirão Preto is an economic hub in the interior of the state of São Paulo. In 2012, the PróUrbano Consortium, which consists of two operators – Rápido D’Oeste and Transcorp, was awarded a municipal contract to operate the city’s public transportation system for a twenty year period.
Now, through the Urban Mobility Company of Ribeirão Preto S.A. (RP Mobi), PróUrbano has selected Optibus’ AI-powered Planning and Scheduling software solutions to manage and optimize the city’s public bus network for the benefit of 41 million annual passengers.
Optibus’ Scheduling software will optimize crew and vehicle schedules across PróUrbano’s entire operation.
Optibus’ implementation will support PróUrbano in achieving outcomes around fleet usage, network efficiency, service reliability, and more precise monitoring to ensure compliance with municipal regulations. It will also modernize PróUrbano’s planning and scheduling operations by introducing innovations in artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and optimization. Together, this combination improves operational visibility and decisionmaking, accelerates scenario testing, and performs optimizations with unprecedented quality and speed.
With this initiative, Ribeirão Preto joins the growing network of cities using Optibus’ software platform to create 100% AI-powered bus networks: Porto Alegre, Guarulhos, and Manaus in Brazil, the BRT system of Rio de Janeiro, and Santiago, Chile.
With Optibus' cloud-native software, operators will have greater operational visibility and be able to simulate scenarios much faster.
Marcelo Santos Galli, Superintendent and Traffic Director of Ribeirão Preto, said:
“The adoption of the Optibus platform represents a significant step forward in the modernization of public transportation management in Ribeirão Preto. This move aligns with the Ribeirão Mobilidade Program, which seeks to make services more efficient, reliable, and user-centric. With the support of advanced technology, we will be able to further improve operational planning and execution, raising the quality of the service provided to our population.”
Roque Felício, president of the PróUrbano consortium, highlighted:
“We are excited about our partnership with Optibus, which will support our initiative to modernize Ribeirão Preto’s public transportation system. We believe that this technology will be essential for transportation operators to reach new levels of efficiency, reliability, and quality in the service provided to the population.”
Victor Celada, Regional Director of Optibus for Latin America, remarked:
“By establishing this partnership with Ribeirão Preto, we are reinforcing our commitment to transforming public transportation in Brazil. We are here to support operators and the government in their mission to offer more efficient, reliable, and sustainable mobility for the entire population of the city.”
Improvements to Ribeirão Preto’s Transportation Network
Optibus’ implementation falls into a broader initiative led by the City of Ribeirão Preto in recent years to upgrade their public transportation system. In addition to technological transformation, this includes renewing the fleet with buses that are fully accessible to people with disabilities and reduced mobility and that are equipped with air conditioning, free Wi-Fi, and USB ports. Interconnected bus corridors have been implemented, serving all regions of the city. In 2024, the Operational Control Center (CCO) was established to monitor real-time road and corridor conditions, contributing to more efficient urban mobility.
