Guarulhos, Taubaté, Arujá, Campinas, Ribeirão Preto, and other cities will use Optibus’ artificial intelligence system and optimization algorithms to plan and schedule their public transportation network that transports 130 million passengers annually.

The Niff Group, which brings together several passenger transportation companies operating in the metropolitan region of São Paulo, Brazil, has chosen the Optibus operating system to plan and schedule its public transportation services.

Through the move, Niff Group companies include Viação Urbana Guarulhos, Empresa de Ônibus Vila Galvão, Expresso Campibus, ABC Transportes, Arujá Transportes, Rápido D’Oeste, and Ribe Transportes, will now have access to advanced transportation planning technology powered by artificial intelligence and optimization algorithms.  By partnering with Optibus, the Niff Group aims to introduce a new level of innovation and efficiency to its operation, for the benefit of its more than 130 million annual passengers.

The implementation of Optibus at Niff Group means that Optibus will now be used to power public transportation in three of the five metropolitan regions of the city of São Paulo, whose transportation network is regulated by the São Paulo Metropolitan Urban Transport Company (EMTU/SP).

Among the various municipal transportation operations that will benefit from the use of Optibus' cutting-edge technology, the companies of Viação Urbana Guarulhos and Empresa de Ônibus Vila Galvão, both located in the city of Guarulhos, stand out. With almost 1.3 million inhabitants, Guarulhos is the second-largest city in the state of São Paulo. One hundred and nineteen of the city’s bus lines are operated by these two businesses, transporting more than 126 million passengers annually. Now, all those lines and services will be optimized using Optibus as the businesses adopt the platform across all their operations, bringing better public transportation to millions of passengers.

The Optibus platform will provide transportation operators across the region with an advanced yet easy-to-use solution for scheduling and planning buses, enhanced by special features including On-Time Performance (OTP), Demand-Based Planning, and other functionalities. This will not only increase operational and financial efficiency for operators in the state of São Paulo, but also further contribute to improving the quality of services provided to passengers.

Optibus' cloud-native platform will also allow better visibility into the key performance indicators set for the transportation network, ensuring that services comply with the standards and regulations set by managing bodies with regard to frequency, regularity, and other crucial aspects.

“The Niff Group’s decision to adopt Optibus demonstrates our commitment to lead innovation within the public transportation sector, leveraging the most advanced technologies on the market. Our choice of Optibus was based on its ability to improve functionality, scalability, and customer support,” said José Roberto Iasbek Felício, president of Grupo Niff.

“We welcome with immense pride the addition of the Niff Group to the Optibus client community. They are a reference within the public transportation sector, reinforcing the trust that Optibus has gained from across the industry. Together, we will work hard to produce excellent results for the Niff Group operators and, as a result, for urban mobility in our cities,” said Victor Celada, regional director of Optibus in Brazil.
