Sogal, a public transportation operator in the Canoas municipality of Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, has chosen Optibus, a cloud-native, AI-powered SaaS (Software as a Service) company, as the technological solution for their transportation planning and scheduling needs.
Sogal will use Optibus’ planning and scheduling modules to enhance services across Canoas’ municipal lines and expand their driver roster. The project also supports integration with Bus Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), electronic ticketing, and fleet monitoring systems.
The decision comes following a successful pilot of the Optibus system in Canoas between June to September 2021. The pilot demonstrated that Optibus not only supported all of Sogal’s operational needs, but also enabled several benefits, such as better transparency into operational metrics, agility and flexibility to quickly change bus schedules and scenarios, and a reduction in operating costs which increased operational efficiency.
“We hope that this partnership will bring us more efficiency, agility in decision-making in our transportation planning, and cost savings, achieving better service and system reliability for our customers,” says Marlon Casagrande, Superintendent of Sogal.
Canoas is a university hub featuring five major universities which attract many people and businesses to the city. Sogal transports about 800,000 people in the region every month. The company operates 18 depots, 76 municipal lines with 85 buses, with plans to increase their fleet to 100 vehicles in 2022. More than 300 employees make up the Sogal team.
“We, at Optibus, are delighted to have Sogal as our first customer in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. We believe that this partnership will bring numerous benefits to Sogal’s operation and to the population of Canoas,” emphasizes André Vieira, Regional Director of Optibus.
