Optibus is rapidly expanding in an important market in Brazil: Rio Grande do Sul, the state with the nation’s fourth largest GDP and a population of 11.4 million people.
Across the state, Optibus is already used to plan and schedule intercity and municipal lines serving six cities (Viamão, Alvorada, Porto Alegre, Canoas, Cachoeirinha, and Gravataí), moving more than 4 million passengers per month.
Now, public transportation operators Transbus and Transcal have become the latest Rio Grande do Sul companies to sign up to use Optibus’ Planning and Scheduling software this year. They join operators Viamão and Sogal, who signed up to use Optibus earlier in 2022. With these new operators, almost 600 buses across Rio Grande do Sul are now being optimized using Optibus.
Through Optibus' Planning and Scheduling modules, public transportation operators in Rio Grande do Sul can offer highly reliable and efficient services to passengers. The software’s combination of artificial intelligence and powerful optimization algorithm meets local demand for robust technological solutions that can replace slow and expensive manual and legacy processes. Using Optibus, operators in Rio Grande do Sul can now achieve better operational visibility, agility in changing schedules and generating scenarios, and a significant reduction in operating costs, using processes that take into account minutes rather than days.
“Optibus’ technology will bring much more flexibility and agility to our public transportation operation. We will see an improvement in the planning of schedules, vehicles, and drivers. It will be possible to automatically and very quickly prepare timetables, services, and shifts, resulting in cost savings for our company,” said Clifferson Pelisson, director of operations for the Transbus and Transcal companies.
“Rio Grande do Sul holds great importance for Brazil in terms of its economy and population size. The state has a large public transportation system to support that position, and it is gratifying to know that Optibus is the preference of several public transportation companies in the region, when it comes to implementing cutting-edge technology solutions that improve operations,” emphasized Ronem Avraham, General Manager of Optibus for Latin America.
